Result of Service
a) Ensure delivery of high-quality outcomes relevant to C1 in general, and sub-component 1.2 in particular;
b) Capacity building workshops for national partners, one in french and one in english to define problems and develop solutions;
c) Technical input to the preparation of C1 regional workshops and training materials and publication;
d) Hold regional science-policy forum for scientists and decision makers to share some of the best practices, methods, tools and evidence-based solutions relevant to C1 in general, and sub-component 1.2 in particular;
e) Scientific and technical leadership and representation of the project at regional and international levels;
f) Provision of stronger linkages/collaboration with AUC food security unit;
g) Liaison with FAO and the Programme Coordination Unit (PCU);
h) Reports including project closure report to the Project Coordinator in UNEP Regional Office for Africa.

Duties and Responsibilities

The post is located in the UNEP Africa office. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Regional Sub - Programme Coordinator for Environment Under Review who is the designated Project Coordinator:

• Facilitate communications and linkages at regional and national levels and communication with FAO staff engaged in the C1 of the IAP regional Hub project, as well as with the IAP PCU and the IAP-Food Security Coordinator.
• Provide technical input to the preparation of sub-component 1.2 regional workshops in collaboration with FAO on the training materials and publication;
• Reassess and synthesize the current child projects needs with regards to Scientific/Technical support from SPI / knowledge in a participatory process;
• Develop and deliver SPI reports related to sub-component 1.2 to the PCU;
• Project closure:
o Review the project design report to ensure full completion and proper handover.
o Assess the project's performance in terms of cost, schedule, and quality.
o Obtain acceptance of the project deliverables.
o Document lessons learned during implementation.
o Formalize closure by obtaining sign-off from the project sponsor and PCU
• Undertake any other duties, within her/his area of competence, as assigned by the IAP lead agency in collaboration with the Project Coordinator.

Qualifications/special skills
Advanced university degree (Master's degree) in Environmental Assessments; Conservation, Governance, sustainable development and international relations or related fields is required.
A minimum of 5 years of working experience is required in the field of project management, environmental science, assessment and related research, development, biodiversity related research, project implementation and monitoring, review and assessment of project reports, provision of guidance, and report writing is required. Experience with the United Nations, International Organizations, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is required. Ability to work with minimum supervision in a team environment is desirable.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in written and oral English is required. Working knowledge of other UN languages is an asset.
