Organizational Setting
FAO's office for Sudan is responsible for developing, promoting, overseeing and implementing agreed strategies for addressing countrywide food, agriculture and rural development priorities under Sudan. It develops and maintains relations with the relevant Ministries at country level. This position is based in FAO Representation in Khartoum, Sudan. The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.

Reporting Lines
The Specialist will work under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative and direct supervision of the project Chief Technical Advisor, and in close coordination with the Project Coordinator

Technical Focus
The incumbent will support implementation of the project’s climate change actions, ensure compliance of the project with the national adaptation plans and support implementation of climate change activities.

Tasks and responsibilities
• Support the CTA and the Project Coordinator in the overall management of the project.
• Design and implement trainings for community stakeholders on climate change adaption and natural resources management.
• Provide technical support and guidance on formulation of Climate Resilient Village Cluster Plans (CRVCP) and prioritization of climate change adaptation investment options by targeted communities.
• Provide support in management of Letters of Agreements between FAO and implementing partners on implementation of Community Adaptive Plans (CAP), climate change adaptation investment options and gender activities of GALS and numeracy illiteracy
• Contribute to establishing improved cross-sectoral coordination at State and Locality level and that help to safeguard the long-term sustainability of adaptation and mitigation results generated by the project’s investments in land restoration.
• Contribute to policy dialogues to strengthen the enabling environment for climate change adaptation investments (NTFP value chains, land management and restoration).
• Contribute to elaboration of improved state-level natural resource management regulations, including those needed to provide legal protection for livestock corridors and community forests – and their respective management arrangements.
• Support the coordination between the rangeland and other stakeholders on the implementation of rangeland restoration, livestock route demarcation and water points along the routes.
• Support in identification of relevant inputs for the review of national-level policies and regulations.
• Contribute to documentation of project study-reports, publications and lesson learned for the project sustainability.
• Perform other duties related to the project tasks as requested.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements
• Advanced university degree in forestry, natural resources management, agricultural economics, development economics, environmental sciences or other related field;
• At least 7 years’ experience in technical cooperation–related activities, policy advice and analysis relating to climate change adaptation, agriculture and rural development, monitoring and evaluation of policies and projects/programmes;
• Working knowledge of English.
• National of Sudan or a legal resident in the country with a valid work permit.
