Background
UNICEF – the United Nations Children’s Fund- is an international organization working to realize the rights of children all around the world with presence in over 190 countries and territories. UNICEF operates its programmes fully with the generous donations received from governments, the private sector, as well as individuals. UNICEF mobilizes support from the private sector as well as generous individuals which is critical to delivering its programmes for children.


The support of individuals is critical for UNICEF to achieve its mandate for children. The organization recognizes the value of growing, engaging, and retaining individual supporters (financial donors and non-financial supporters) and strives to offer them meaningful journeys.

How can you make a difference?

Objectives of the assignment is:
1. Assisting in the implementation of UNICEF Namibia’s vision for the 2023 Regional World Children’s Day (WCD)
2. Producing information packs for donors and partners and other communication products
3. Contributing to the maintenance of the UNISON platform through updates
4. Supporting the organization of the 6th Session of the Children’s Parliament

Scope of Work:

The Communication & Advocacy Consultant is required to undertake the following tasks and activities:
1. Support and guidance to implement UNICEF Namibia’s vision for regional World Children’s Day Celebrations.
a. Participate in the Ministry of Gender Equality Poverty Eradication & Social Welfare Task Force Meetings
b. Participate in the internal and external working groups of the WCD as assigned by the supervisor
c. Lead the development and production of all branding supplies
d. As per guidance from UNICEF Regional Office, produce social media pack to boost social media presence and brand positioning for the 2023 Regional WCD
e. Manage & lead regional youth engagement on the online platform and tabulate all discussion to feed into the WCD Children’s Communique
f. Assist in the writing of the consolidated 2023 WCD report

2. Provide quality design and lay-out of information packs for Advocacy & Visibility
g. Produce donors and partners and other communication products in line with UNICEF branding requirements and within specified deadlines
h. Contribute to organization of the Donor filed visit and other Cross Cutting programme advocacy events
i. Accompany the Communication team to field visits as required
3. Support Namibia Private Sector Engagement Strategy
j. Contribute to the implementation of the work plan for assigned area, to ensure timely and effective delivery of results, in accordance with the UNICEF’s partnership Strategy
k. Develop database of corporate requests for partnership; Maintain up-to-date information on partners
and income trends, analyse development assistance policies and keep resource partner profiles updated
l. Ensure compliance with UNICEF rules and regulations: ensure timely Due Diligence clearance and review partner agreements and amendments for senior staff approval, support the donor reports.
m. Assist in managing corporate partnerships and relations with potential, existing and past corporate partners through organising meetings and maintaining minutes of such meetings
n. Capture information on UNICEF’s and Private Sector partners’ engagement using UNISON Customer relationship management (CRM) database and provide technical support and advice in utilizing UNISON
o. Help maintain effective relationships with the regional office to keep them informed on important, strategic operational UNICEF activations
4. Support to the Organisation & Hosting of the 6th Session of the Children’s Parliament
p. Participate in meetings to organise the 2024 6th Session of the Children’s Parliament and implement the tasks given as member
q. Assist in the design of branded communication & advocacy materials for the 6th Session
r. Contribute to the conceptualisation of the programme/s
s. Assist in the identification of the resource persons to be invited

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Minimum Qualifications required:

At least diploma or first degree from an accredited academic institution in Communication, Marketing, International Relations.

Knowledge/Expertise/Skills required:
A minimum of two years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas is required: communication, public affairs, project management, resource mobilization, external relations, marketing, sales, or other relevant area.
Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset.

Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of a local language is an asset.

• Technical Proposal demonstrating the consultant’s understanding of the Terms of Reference (ToR), the proposed methodology/approach and timelines for the respective deliverables; and
• A financial proposal/budget, which must include all expenses related to the assignment (including travel costs of 15 days to Erongo Region (Walvisbay) and 7 days field travel in 2024).


• UNICEF will not cover any costs of the consultancy not included in the financial proposal (excludes costs of meetings for attendees).

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract.
