Organizational Setting
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) contributes to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda through the FAO Strategic Framework by supporting the transformation to MORE efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable agrifood systems, for better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life, leaving no one behind.
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger and malnutrition. The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors, and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.
FAO, through the Fisheries and Aquaculture Division, is implementing FISH4ACP (“Sustainable development of fisheries and aquaculture value chains in Africa, Caribbean and Pacific countries”), which is a 5-year project funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. The FISH4ACP project aims at improving the sustainability of 12 selected fisheries and aquaculture value chains through five main components/specific objectives:
i) robust fisheries and aquaculture improvement strategies are developed and agreed with stakeholders;
ii) the economic performance of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in select value chains is improved;
iii) the inclusiveness and social sustainability of select value chains are improved;
iv) the environmental sustainability of select value chains is enhanced; and
v) MSMEs in selected value chains have access to additional sources of finance and investment.
Reporting Lines
The incumbent will work under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative, and direct supervision of the FISH4ACP National Professional Officer (NPO) within FAO Representation in Zambia.
Technical Focus
The incumbent will contribute to the development of the programme in Mpulungu, Zambia, thereby providing technical, coordination, operational assistance, and support with outreach and reporting to partners based on knowledge of the local conditions, culture, language and institutions in Zambia.
Tasks and responsibilities
• Help organize meetings, plan agendas and prepare reports;
• Support the NPO with reporting to the Project Management Unit (PMU) and to the National Multi-Stakeholder Platform, which will include information on results achieved, constraints and possible solutions, as well as administrative and financial updates;
• Support the preparation and review of terms of reference;
• Support the development and implementation of awareness raising activities, training, and sensitizations by the project;
• Prepare communication materials and products to communicate priorities and outputs of the project;
• Support NPO with preparing and executing the FISH4ACP annual country-level work plan and budget and overseeing the preparation of the country-level value chain work plan and budget;
• Assist in developing and maintaining partnerships with country and regional stakeholders who can contribute to achieving FISH4ACP value chain objectives;
• Collaborate closely with consultants (national and international) responsible for value chain project tasks and ensure the implementation of a sustainable systems-based value chain approach;
• Support knowledge sharing emerging from the value chain to ensure information is widely disseminated within the FISH4ACP project and externally;
• Support the development and implementation of the FISH4ACP communication strategy at the country level and contribute to documenting gender of achievements and results;
• Assist the support and monitoring of the value chain upgrading activities, facilitating linkages between stakeholders, including the formation of the value chain task force, and the organization of value chain stakeholder workshops;
• Contribute to data collection and analysis gender, as well as report-writing (as applicable) on the strategy and implementation sections;
• Perform other duties as required.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING,
Minimum Requirements
• A degree in Development Studies, Business Administration, Agricultural Economics or related studies
• Preferable candidate should have at least three (3) years of relevant experience in working with projects in the area of planning, coordination and administration support.
• Working knowledge of the English language [i.e. spoken and written]
