JOB PURPOSE:

To support telecommunications services in order to facilitate efficient implementation of security processes and procedures.

KEY RESPONSABILITIES (not all-inclusive, nor exhaustive):

1. Establish communication channels with WFP Security staff and UNDSS Radio Room. Facilitate an efficient flow of security-related information regarding aircraft operations, adhering to established standard operating procedures (SOPs).

2. Oversee all radio communications relevant to aircraft operations. Track aircraft movements to provide real-time updates and ensure situational awareness.

3. Generate regular reports on aircraft communications and operations. Conduct daily radio communications with aircrafts and document the results.

4. Provide support to flight crews and ground staff on the effective use of telecommunications equipment used in aircraft operations. Conduct training sessions on procedures to ensure effective communication during flights.

5. Maintain an inventory of telecommunications equipment specific to aircraft operations, ensuring all tools are functional and available. Regularly assess equipment needs to support flight communications without interruptions. Promptly report any issues or shortages to ensure seamless aircraft operations.

6. Create and maintain databases (e.g. lists of call signs, addresses, telephone numbers, etc.), to ensure accurate information is always available.

7. Follow established emergency response processes and procedures, to ensure prompt assistance in case of emergencies.

OTHER POST REQUIREMENTS (details to be determined by Post Managers):

Routinely assess the communication and reporting processes pertaining exclusively to aircraft to improve effectiveness.

Promote teamwork within the radio room to support aircraft flight operations and enhance communication efficiency.

Train staff to effectively handle emergencies related to aircraft communications, prioritizing clear and timely information dissemination.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Education: Completion of secondary school education. Technical training in communication equipment or other work-related areas
Experience: Four or more years of progressively responsible work experience in telecommunications/radio operations, information technology, or other relevant field of work.
Knowledge & Skills

Good knowledge in the telecommunication operations and procedures and high standard computer literacy.

Ability to operate and maintain telecommunications equipment including installation works.

Good communication skills; ability to provide short briefings and communications clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Ability to multi-task, and respond simultaneously and in a timely fashion to demanding job requirements.

Ability to prioritize a heavy workload, demonstrate judgement, initiative, alertness and emotional stability, especially in emergency situations.

Good coordination and control skills to act swiftly and adequately in case of emergencies and resolve operational issues promptly.

High sense of discretion and integrity.

Client orientation and ability to establish effective working relationships in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment.

Ability to work in a team.

Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in the UN language in use at the duty station (English) and in the duty station’s language (Portuguese).
