The Opportunity

Save the Children International has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as the Research and Evidence Advisor, Equality in the UK (London or Remote) or any existing Save the Children International Regional or Country office worldwide.

Role Purpose:

The Research & Evidence Advisor - Equality is responsible for leading the research and monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning (or Evidence & Learning/ E&L) efforts of Save the Children’s commitment to advancing equality. They will develop and operationalize equality-focused indicators and benchmarks, as well as ensure our E&L systems collect and analyse data disaggregated by key dimensions of inequality. They will provide leadership to ensure Save the Children E&L systems and approaches embed and embody a priority focus on equality, applying an equitable, inclusive and intersectional, rights-based approach to all E&L work. The post-holder will identify and support research and evaluation priorities that enable evidence-based programmes, policy, advocacy and campaigns that advance equality. They will contribute to filling evidence gaps both internally in Save the Children and externally in the wider sector on good practices and innovative approaches to identify and positively transform the discriminatory norms, practices, systems and structures that impact children’s equality rights. They will additionally work to ensure that equality-focused research and evidence is used in support of relevant strategic goals.

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder may be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Demonstrated knowledge and experience of technical and program issues in development and humanitarian contexts, specifically related to issues of inequality and discrimination; ideally with a focus on child rights
Demonstrated ability to use data and evidence to support positive transformation of the discriminatory norms, practices, systems and structures that drive inequality and cause discrimination
Proven ability to develop and apply equality-focused monitoring and evaluation approaches and plans to determine program results and monitor impact within an international organization across various identities/characteristics.
Curiosity and determination to use data and evidence to drive continuous improvement toward advancing equality
Demonstrated skills in quantitative and qualitative data, including but not limited to equitable, inclusive and intersectional, rights-based research design, data collection, analysis and presentation, and communication of results
Experience in using relevant primary and secondary data and evidence to inform and support policy, advocacy and campaigning to advance equity and inclusion
Knowledge and experience in capacity building and enhancing competencies around equitable, inclusive and intersectional, rights-based monitoring and evaluation, research and learning including design, data collection, data entry, analysis and reporting, across different cultures and contexts
Proven understanding of with issues of equality, inclusion, child participation, child safeguarding, ethics and data protection in relation to research especially for children impacted by inequality and discrimination (e.g. gender and power analysis).
Demonstrated capability to design research and study designed using the Washington Groups Sets on Disability Data and the UNICEF child functioning modules and proven experience of analysis and reporting on disability disaggregated indicators.
Proven proficiency using software packages including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and data analysis programs (e.g., SPSS, STATA, Nvivo)
Ability to adopt a proactive and creative approach to problem solving and strategic thinking working closely with colleagues as required to offer solutions and deliver results
Ability to influence, collaborate and liaise with a wide range of people at all levels and across different cultures and act with credibility, tact and diplomacy
Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to summarize, synthesise and present technical information to non-technical audiences
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop and maintain relationships with key individuals and groups within and external to the organization
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and maintain focus to achieve results
Ability to maintain a calm disposition and positive outlook when working under pressure
Verbal and written fluency in English
Willingness and ability to travel up to 20% of the time
Desirable:

Additional languages, particularly French, Spanish and/or Arabic.
Lived expertise via belonging to an equity-seeking community in the Global South.
We can offer circa £46,500 per annum (If based in the UK) with an option of flexible working hours. If the role is based outside of the UK, National Terms & Conditions (including pay and benefits) will apply.

This role can be based in the UK (London or Remote) or any existing Save the Children International Regional or Country office location on approval, provided the successful candidate has proof of eligibility to work from the preferred location for the duration of the contract.
