The Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) role provides great insights into Maersk processes, data flows and organizational structure. It is an important position to enable various teams across the region in delivering on the Maersk promise to our customers and reducing cost.
This is a senior coordinating role, responsible for setting priorities, reviewing proposals, initiating changes and enhancing overall improvement of data quality and timeliness of EDI, as well as driving process standardization and implementation of global changes.
The Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) Coordinator is based in the Transported by Maersk - Customer Delivery Africa within our OCL (Ocean Customer Logistics) for Maersk Line and is responsible to assist with EDI implementation, coordinate and improve all electronic data, information flows between internal and external systems. The OCL is responsible for vessel schedules, allocation management, VSA coordination, port productivity, procuring and controlling Container Yard, Port Expenses and Foreign Feeder costs, load and discharge processes, equipment positioning and evacuation.
The job includes interactions with the Maersk EDI business teams (eBIS), Business Process Owners, Global Service Centre, and other functional departments. The role is an independent one, with a lot of freedom in driving an EDI agenda.
EDI - increase timeliness, data quality and coverage:
Assist all vendors to be EDI enabled (Increase hit ratio of EDI performance).
Drive cost reduction, customer satisfaction and workload reduction by consistently improving electronic data exchange to and from Maersk.
Monitor daily EDI performance and drive mitigating actions.
Own the existing EDI rules for your region and ensure that EDI rules are adjusted should there be a business process change.
Understand system interdependencies and collaborates with all relevant departments.
Coordinate VSA BAPLIE changes between CENVSA, the VSA partner and eBIS.
Vendor Management:
Provide inputs to contract negotiations with Vendors on EDI requirements as a Subject matter expert.
Manage onboarding of new operational vendors (terminal, feeder operators, depots and relevant authorities).
Ensure that EDI performance is regularly communicated with the Vendor and potential improvement solutions.
Clear and manage RKEMF1 errors for New Vendors that have been EDI enabled to ensure that EDI ratio is less than 10% before vendor is migrated to the GSC.
Continuous Improvement:
Identify sub-optimal EDI connections and implement improvements with the eBIS team within the OCL.
Review process information and data flows to suggest and implement EDI set-ups to substitute manual data transfer.
Partner with business liaisons to understand technical system requirements, with an emphasis on ML Operations Business Process improvement.
Coordinate and review all functional excellence activities and develop change management strategies to ensure successful implementation and adoption.
Who we are Looking for:
The ideal candidate has great affinity with systems and processes, a results-driven individual with strong analytical skill set, detailed orientated and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
5+ years of functional experience with process improvement and organizational change background preferred.
Previous experience in implementing EDI transactions or equivalent programming experience.
knowledge about Shipping business processes and related applications (GSIS, GCSS, GLEO, RKEM, AMPS, COMET etc.). Therefore, Liner shipping or relevant experience would be preferable.
Excellent stakeholder management.
Good communication skills and ability to suggest possible solutions for problems in an honest, timely manner with consistent communication to management.
Able to deliver impact and influence others without authority and work independently with a solutions-driven mindset.
Comfortable with open assignments or quickly changing goals, roles, authority and responsibilities.
Inherently curious with risk taking ability, balancing constraints and opportunities.
