Internship: Human Resources - Supply Community

UNICEF Supply Division, Copenhagen



Tentative start date: As soon as possible. The internship is on a full-time basis.

Duration: 6 months

Salary/Payment: The assignment is paid in accordance with the UNICEF policy on the Internship Programme.

UNICEF's supply and logistics headquarters, Supply Division is located in Copenhagen, which is home to the largest humanitarian warehouse in the world. Our people based in Denmark cover a broad area of expertise, including logistics, procurement, warehouse management, product innovation, market insights, finance, pharma, nutrition, vaccines, cold chain and health technologies and engineering.

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented intern to join our Supply Community Unit in the Human Resources Centre of UNICEF’s Supply Division. The unit works as a coordination point for a range of processes dedicated to the global clientele of over 1,300 staff members, which we call Supply Community.

This internship offers a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience in data analysis and its application to HR processes in the context of humanitarian emergency response. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, with an interest in Human Resources, and have a passion for supporting impactful humanitarian efforts.



How can you make a difference?

In agreement with the supervisor(s), the intern will:

Collect, organize, and analyze HR data related to staff providing emergency response globally (using Excel, PowerBI).
Generate reports and dashboards to present HR data analysis and recommendations to support decision-making.
Support the Supply Community Unit in evaluating and improving ongoing projects through data-driven insights.
Contribute to the expansion of the current roster mechanism for emergency support, including processing of new applications, validation, and monitoring of existing roster membership.
Take part in the processes for deployment of staff to international missions.
Offer support to the coordination and administration of stretch assignments (internal assignments). This includes advising and guiding supervisors on the stretch assignment guidelines and recruitment process.
Support the Supply Community communication strategy e.g., internal social media engagement, email campaigns, etc.
Support the design and introduction of a Supply Community-wide newsletter.
Ongoing HRC coordination support for SD Intranet review project.
Draft PowerPoint presentations, reports, and Excel databases relevant to the Supply Community.
Conduct administrative tasks related to the work of the Supply Community Unit.


Expected Deliverables:

The future intern is expected to contribute to the following deliverables:

Launch support and subsequent monitoring and maintenance of the Supply Community Power BI dashboard.
Expansion support to the Supply Emergency and Surge Roster.
Preparation of presentations, reports, and databases relevant to the Supply Community
Supply Community Newsletter.
Communication strategy roll-out, including Intranet page, Viva Engage (corporate social media platform), email campaigns, etc.
Monthly update of the intranet page covering staff new arrivals and movements within the Supply Community.

Interact with key staff in the organisation and represent the HR team.
Develop business understanding and strategic staffing mechanisms.
Human resources administration for a large UN agency and the general workings of a large international humanitarian aid and development organisation.
Internal Communications within UNICEF.

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

Education:

Be enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or Ph.D. degree programme or have graduated within the past two years, in Business Administration, Human Resources Management, Data Analytics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.


Your skills:

Fluent in English (required). Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset.

While prior professional experience is not required, preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate the following, through their studies or extracurricular activities:

Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret and draw meaningful insights from HR data.
Experience with data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI).
Familiarity in working with SharePoint websites
Detail-oriented mindset with excellent organizational skills.
Communication and design savvy.
Participation in HR-related projects, research, or case studies.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with utmost discretion.
Demonstrated passion for working in the humanitarian aid field, with an understanding of the challenges and dynamics involved.

Additional information:

Age: Interns must be at least 18 years

Family relations: Interns must have no immediate relatives (e.g., father, mother, brother, sister) working in any UNICEF office.

Visa: Should it be relevant during the internship to travel to the duty station, UNICEF is not responsible for obtaining any visas for internships. However, UNICEF can provide a Note Verbale to respective Consulates, to support the application of Visas. Also, if the intern is already in the country of the duty station and has been granted a different work permit, any extension cannot be dependent on an internship with UNICEF.

Insurance: The selected candidate must provide proof of health/accident insurance plan that covers them in the assignment country and for the entire assignment.

Interns are covered for any service-incurred injury/illness.

Employment: There is no expectancy of employment at the end of the internship.

Vaccination Status: Candidates are subject to confirmation of fully vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to selected candidates who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises.

Onboarding: The intern will be required to provide confirmation of strong academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records or, if not available, a reference letter from an academic supervisor, a copy of health insurance coverage and to fill out the relevant UNICEF forms on conditions before taking up service as an intern.
