Position Description
This position is for the MOMENTUM Integrated Health Resilience Project (MIHR) in Burkina Faso, implemented by Pathfinder International, with IMA World Health, JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc., CARE, and the African Christian Health Association Platform (ACHAP). MIHR in Burkina Faso aims to increase the capacity of the Ministry of Health (MOH) to sustainably plan and manage quality MNCH, FP, RH, and nutrition services, including building resilience to health system shocks and stresses.
The Immunization Officer for MIHR in Burkina Faso will work in close collaboration with the MNCH Advisor to provide technical support, guidance, leadership, and management oversight to the immunization activities of the project. The position will be based in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso and will report to the MNCH Advisor, with guidance from MIHR headquarters staff.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide technical guidance to project immunization activities, including working with the MOH to advance the implementation of the reaching every district/ reaching every child (RED/REC) approach, missed opportunities for vaccination, and periodic intensifications of routine immunization strategies.
• Work with the EPI Managers within the district and regional levels on immunization activities, including conducting microplanning, supportive supervision, and ensuring adequately training of immunization service delivery staff.
• Coordinating with the necessary focal points to make sure that sufficient stocks of vaccines and vaccine-related supplies are available at the immunization delivery points as well as on integrated approaches
• Monitor project immunization activities
• Contribute to work plans, quarterly and annual reports, financial reports, and other reports and papers summarizing immunization activities, results, and evidence
• Work in close collaboration with MIHR Burkina Faso and HQ staff to address all technical and programming requests including supporting delivery of high-quality immunization services at health facility level and demand generation at community level.
• Represent MIHR in technical working groups as needed
• Support other MIHR activities as needed
Qualifications
• Education:
o Master’s Degree in public health, or a related field; Degree with 2 years of additional relevant experience will be accepted in lieu of a Master’s Degree
• Experience:
o Four years of experience implementing, and evaluating immunization activities for programs of similar nature, size, and complexity, with national or local governments, NGOs, or donors
o Experience in MNCH; direct immunization experience preferred
o Experience working in Burkina Faso
o Experience working on USAID-funded projects preferred
• Knowledge/skills:
o Knowledge of the RED/REC approach and its implementation
o Knowledge of immunization strategies for zero-dose children including maintenance, restoration and strengthening of routine immunization strategies as well as maintaining both a gender focus and integrated approach within the continuum of care
o Knowledge of immunization-related budget planning as it relates to strengthening the district-level health system
o Knowledge of USG health initiatives and related reporting requirements and funding parameters
o Proven ability to work as an effective team member
o Ability to work and travel within Burkina Faso
o Professional oral and written communication skills in French
o Limited professional oral and written communication skills in English prefered
