ABOUT WFP
The United Nations World Food Programme is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. The mission of WFP is to help the world achieve Zero Hunger in our lifetimes. Every day, WFP works worldwide to ensure that no child goes to bed hungry and that the poorest and most vulnerable, particularly women and children, can access the nutritious food they need.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT
The ongoing collaborative partnership between the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) reflects the effective operationalization of the two existing frameworks that govern the corporate partnership: a 2009 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and the Fiduciary Principles Agreement signed in 2018. The growing collaboration is further demonstrated by more than USD 124 million project resourcing in different sectors in Africa.
WFP’s expansion of the strategic engagement with national governments and International Financial Institutions is part of a broader corporate initiative to diversify partnerships and sources of funding, particularly around the Changing Lives agenda. This corporate investment has resulted in an increase in the number of agreements signed to support national objectives.
Given the growing needs and the complementary nature of work of both institutions, WFP and AfDB will:
1. Review the portfolio of the joint AfDB-WFP collaboration to reflect on the lessons that can be drawn to further strengthen the partnership;
