KIAKA GOLD PROJECT
The Company acquired the Kiaka Gold Project (Kiaka) in 2021. Kiaka is large-scale, permitted development open pit project and hosts 7.7Moz gold Mineral Resource (280Mt at 0.9 g/t Au). Kiaka has a long-life, low-cost project averaging 219,000ozpa for 18.5 years at AISC of US$1,052/oz.
Construction of the Kiaka Gold Project is well underway, including the processing mills, camp, building infrastructure, civil works and community projects.
The Operational Readiness team is focussing on the procurement of equipment and services, establishment of systems and employment / training of personnel to ensure that the operational schedule is achieved.
SANBRADO GOLD PROJECT
Sanbrado is located about 90km east-southeast of Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso and encompasses both underground and open pit mining operations, and is on track to produce 190,000-210,000oz at Sanbrado in 2024 at AISC of <US$1,300/oz; with a remaining mine life of at least 10 years at an average of 200,000ozs.
THE ROLE
The Company is seeking to employ an experienced Training Superintendent to oversee the implementation and ongoing development of training material, operator compliance, record management, systems and processes for the open pit mining operations at Kiaka.
The Training Superintendent will work closely with the Mining OHS Superintendent to ensure consistent standards and processes are developed and adopted. The Superintendent roles (Training and OHS) will provide coverage for each role.
Our ideal candidate for this role will be organised and proactive in the planning and delivery of a high standard of training programs and systems, with an employment history in an owner mining or contract mining environment.
The initial focus of the Training Superintendent will be to support the Open Pit Mining team (owner mining) in establishing and implementing training processes and standards to support the recruitment, training and ongoing compliance of a large open pit mining team.
Essential to the success of this role will be collaboration and alignment of processes and standards with the Kiaka OHS Manager who will be employed prior to the commencement of operations.
Role Responsibilities:
Work as part of the operational readiness team to ensure training systems and materials are fully developed and implemented to support the commencement of mining operations.
Develop training material and procedures for the mining operations.
Ensure training accreditation and standards are aligned with jurisdictional requirements.
Deliver training programs to mine employees, conduct training needs analysis and make recommendations of development needs.
Provide expert coaching, mentoring, and support on all training-related matters to ensure competency of the open pit mining workforce.
Work collaboratively with the Mining OHS Superintendent to align training and OHS standards and procedures.
Work closely and in collaboration with the lead Kiaka OHS and Training team to ensure standards and systems are aligned.
Actively participate in the development and implementation of inspections / audits, toolbox meetings and training needs analysis.
Establish effective working relationships with local training providers and suppliers.
Record and maintain health, safety and training records.
Mentor a learning culture.
Experience and Qualifications
To be successful in the role you will be an experienced mining safety and training professional and will have the following:
Tertiary qualification in Training, OHS or related field.
Qualifications or recognised certification in the development and delivery of training and assessment material and standards.
5+ years’ experience in a mining OHS or Training in a senior or leadership role (owner mining or contract mining environment).
Have experience in developing and delivering training to candidates who are new to the mining sector.
In-depth knowledge and understanding of developing mining Training systems and processes aligned with legislative requirements.
A working knowledge of mining operations in West Africa / Burkina Faso or similar jurisdictions.
Good knowledge and understanding of training and safety management systems, auditing and incident reporting and investigation, along with ICAM Lead required.
High level of personal organisational and communication skills.
The ability to multi-task, be customer-focused with excellent problem-solving skills.
Enthusiastic, hands-on approach.
High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office, OHS and training management reporting software.
Bilingual English / French (highly regarded).
