THE ROLE AND ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

This position is located in the Partnership Unit of the DRC Country Office and will report to the DRC Head of Partnerships & Reporting. The unit plays a key role in soliciting contributions and resources from stakeholders in order to implement food and nutrition-related activities in the DRC. The unit will also look at identifying opportunities for technical partnerships and in-kind donations from prospective private sector stakeholders.

PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT :

The main purpose of this role is to drive WFP’s effective positioning with private and external stakeholders to align on policy priorities, bring in new resources (funding, technical capacity, in-kind contributions) and find innovative solutions to advance the progress of SDG2 in the DRC.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

You will :

Support implementation of the CO’s partnership engagement strategy, including regular review of the Partnership Action Plan, with the objective of increasing resources (financial, in-kind, technical) to meet CO needs.
Proactively lead outreach and engagement with prospective private sector partners in DRC to negotiate funding and other contributions. Build and maintain positive relationships with private sector counterparts, while managing complex ‘sales’ processes and negotiations.
Gather and share data and information on prospective partners (including forecasting), using key information systems (e.g. WINGS, Salesforce, WFPGo), as well as other sources.
Work with CO Partnership team and RBJ Private Sector Partnerships Officer on DRC landscape mapping and validation, developing a list of target companies / entities and foundations. This will include identifying areas of common interest between CO needs and the company / foundation.
Work with DRC Partnership Team, Program Team and RBJ Private Sector Partnership Officer to map and prioritise DRC’s long-term needs (3-5 years) that will formulate the COs key technical (non-cash) “asks” from target private sector stakeholders.
Develop fact sheets and other required content, by engaging with other functional units, RBs and HQ on WFP’s thematic, regional and DRC-specific offerings. Content and language should be tailored to individuals, foundations and private sector audiences and be relevant to Corporate Social Responsibility themes and priorities in the national and global fora.
Develop presentations and co-create (technical) partnership proposals, in coordination with Technical Units and Operations, for potential partners, and submit grant applications.
Facilitate dialogue with (prospective) private partners. Identify relevant policy areas and develop key messaging and quality briefing materials to leverage policy dialogue in support of WFP’s work in the DRC. Proactively highlight strategic opportunities and issues to senior management and propose options for the best course of action to nurture trust and interest in the work of WFP in the DRC. Use socio-political insights to support WFP’s effective positioning vis-à-vis national governments, regional and international institutions with the aim to influence the policy agenda. Support the preparation of joint events that can advance WFP interests and SDG2 objectives in the DRC.
Lead private partnership/contribution management, in line with corporate norms and processes, including legal/contract negotiations, partner due diligence, grant registration, budgeting and information management, ensure partner visibility and reporting requirements are met.
Represent WFP at key external/private sector events to position WFP as a partner of choice.
Supervise one private partnership associate (if resource availability allows).

QUALIFICATIONS AND KEY REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION :

You have :

Advanced University degree in Political Science, International Development, Development Economics, International Relations, Law, Marketing, Communications or other relevant fields, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or training/courses.

EXPERIENCE :

You have :

Minimum five years of relevant professional work experience in business development or sales roles, securing multi-year partnerships and providing inputs to design and develop solutions with prospective partners.

LANGUAGE :

You have :

Fluency (level C) in English language.
Fluency (level C) in the French language.

Has a good understanding of the private sector, foundations and corporate strategies and priorities and gained experience in developing multi-stakeholder partnerships.
Has gained significant experience in exploring new private sector opportunities and providing inputs to design and develop solutions with prospective partners.
Has developed long-term partner relationships and understands the value of expanding relationships across geographies and is comfortable engaging with multiple sectors.
Has designed and managed private and foundation resource mobilization processes and resource strategies, negotiated contract terms and is comfortable providing resourcing advice and feedback to senior managers.
Has used understanding of private partner’s focus areas and knowledge of internal capabilities to create a Unique Value Proposition for these partners.
Experienced in working cross-functionally and obtaining relevant content and information from different units.
Has experience in managing a team.
Has motivated team spirit and contributed to a gender-balanced, inclusive and sound working environment.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Mobility is and continues to be, a core contractual requirement in WFP. The selected candidate will be employed on a fixed term as well as a rotational contract with a probationary period of one year.

WFP offers an attractive compensation and benefits package in line with ICSC standards including basic salary, post adjustment, relocation entitlement, visa, travel and shipment allowances, 30 days’ annual leave, home leave, an education grant for dependent children, a pension plan, and medical insurance.

The selected candidate will be required to relocate to Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo to take up this assignment.
