The International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector arm of the World Bank Group, is a global investor and advisor committed to promoting projects in its developing member countries that are economically beneficial, financially and commercially sound, and environmentally and socially sustainable. IFC finances private sector investments, mobilizes capital in the international financial markets, helps clients improve social and environmental sustainability, and provides technical assistance and advice to governments and businesses in the developing world.

IFC is looking to recruit a Senior Investment Officer for its Africa Infrastructure department. The hiring group is responsible for sourcing and executing investment transactions in the power, utilities, logistics, technology, municipal finance, and transportation sectors in the North Africa, Nigeria, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Sao Tome e Principe, and the Horn of Africa regions (together “the Region”). IFC’s Senior Investment Officers are responsible for the design, negotiation, structuring and subsequent supervision of the Corporation’s investment projects. This position is expected to cover all sectors of the group and is based in Rabat, Morocco. The Senior Investment Officer’s responsibilities will also include origination and support of new transactions, as well as supervision of an assigned portfolio of projects in the Region.

Duties and Accountabilities

• Exercise and/or develop a thorough understanding of energy, water, transportation, telecoms, technology and logistics sectors and in-depth relationships with key regional and local sector players.
• Developing investment marketing strategies within the region, including targeting potential clients/investors and promoting IFC's products and services.
• Evaluate the attractiveness of specific transactions and making recommendation for IFC’s investments. Review and analyze business opportunities, synthesize information into internal reports for decision making purposes.
• Develop a strong pipeline of infrastructure investment opportunities in the Region by anticipating market trends and employing sector/country knowledge.
• Lead upstream initiatives aimed at creating markets, creating opportunities in the Region, including work on key project agreements and project structures.
• Lead and/or participate on teams executing IFC's investments across products with a strong focus on credit and asset quality. This would include originating and processing mandates, conducting due diligence, coordinating with IFC specialists and lenders’ external advisors, structuring deals, and negotiating term sheets and other documentation, syndications, and internal approvals. Develop innovative and appropriate financial structures for complex transactions.
• Manage IFC’s relationship with various stakeholders and assigned portfolio companies.
• Monitor and ensure the companies’ compliance with the terms of investment agreements, and prepare timely internal supervision reports.
• Identify early warning signals in assigned projects and, where necessary, formulate/implement strategies for workouts, restructurings, or a re-scheduling.
• Track and take the lead in managing sensitive environmental and social issues that may arise in assigned projects, and champion IFC’s technical assistance and sustainability offerings to clients.
• Track and record the development impacts of assigned projects.
• Develop and implement equity sales strategies for assigned projects, and
• Coach and develop junior investment staff.

Selection Criteria

• MBA or equivalent qualification.
• At least 10-12 years of experience with a development finance institution (DFI), an international financial institution, a private equity firm or a development organization with tasks related to private sector financing and development.
• Strong business development and client relationship skills to identify potential partners and originate new business opportunities.
• Demonstrated experience in and knowledge of several of the following sectors: renewable energy, transport, logistics, waste management, telecoms, municipal finance and water.
• Regional knowledge of countries and understanding of infrastructure challenges faced by countries within the region will be a plus.
• Demonstrated teamwork skills and ability to work with large multicultural teams spread across geographies.
• English language skills essential, French, Arabic and/or Portuguese language skills would be a bonus.
• Proven track-record of sourcing, structuring and closing complex, limited recourse project finance senior debt, mezzanine, equity and/or bond/capital markets transactions.
• Strong analytical and financial structuring skills, and sound business judgment.
• Willingness to travel extensively.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to communicate ideas clearly, concisely, and confidently.
• Genuine commitment to sustainable development.
