Organizational Setting
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is implementing a project entitled “1000 Digital Villages: Digital Rural Transformation to combat hunger, poverty and inequality in Maghreb countries.” within the framework of the 1000 Digital Villages Initiative of FAO. The project will help to develop National Digital Agriculture Strategies in the countries involved and will put in place six Pilot Digital Villages in three of the countries (Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia).
Reporting Lines
The specialist will be placed under the overall Supervision of the Sub-Regional Coordinator, FAO Sub-Regional Office for North Africa, and the direct supervision of the Information and Knowledge Management Officer (SNE).
Technical Focus
The Specialist on Digital Agriculture Strategy Development Coordination will support the project implementation and facilitate the achievement of project objectives with a focus on the national Digital Agriculture Strategies.
Tasks and Responsibilities
The Specialist on Digital Agriculture Strategy Development Coordination will perform the following tasks:
• Support the preparation of the project work plan, the monitoring of the project activities and implementation and the continuous readjustment of the work plan and budget;
• Identify the challenges in meeting the national agricultural vision and goals. Identify the ICT solutions that could help overcome the challenges taking note of the ICT leverage opportunity in the country (Morocco, Mauritania, Algeria and Tunisia).
• Through the participation of key stakeholders, a national e-agricultural vision is developed. The vision would play a key role in getting buy-in from key stakeholders, policy makers and champions in supporting the implementation of e-agricultural services.
• Coordinate workshops where various stakeholders in the country would identify potential of implementing Digital Agriculture solutions to address agricultural challenges and in facilitating meeting the agricultural vision and goals.
• Coordinate and facilitate workshops where the key stakeholders would develop e-agricultural outcomes based on identified ICT solutions.
• Taking note of the leverage potential, growth and opportunities in complementary sectors, finalize the strategic recommendations to complete the national Digital Agriculture Strategy.
• Provide support and assistance to other projects and initiatives in the sub-region that pertain to Digital Agriculture or have a Digital Agriculture component.
• Carry out other duties as required.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
• Advanced university degree (Masters' degree or equivalent degree) in International Development or related field.
• At least 2 years of relevant professional experience. Experience with a UN agency, FAO or equivalent institutions.
• Working knowledge (level C) of English and French. Knowledge of Arabic language is desirable.
