This position is located in the Travel, Transport and Visa Services Unit (TTVSU) of the Publications, Conference and Knowledge Management Division (PCKMD) of the Economic Commission for Africa at its headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Responsabilités
Under the general guidance of the Chief of Travel, Transport and Visa Services Unit (TTVSU), and the direct supervision of the supervisor under the Transport Unit, the Driver shall perform the following specific duties:

A). Drives for the Deputy Executive Secretary. Provides twenty-four-hour transport service to the Deputy Executive Secretary. This involves: •Driving the Deputy Executive Secretary daily to and from his residence and the ECA in the mornings, afternoons, and evenings, or as required; driving the Deputy Executive Secretary on his official engagements. Ensuring the security of Deputy and cleanliness of the Deputy Executive Secretary's vehicle at all times; determining the most secure routes for transporting the Deputy Executive Secretary; coordinating with ECA Security on security precautions for any journey. Liaising with the Protocol unit to provide appropriate VIP reception at the airport for the Deputy Executive Secretary, returning the vehicle to the ECA compound at the end of the days’ work for secure parking.
B). Day—to-day Vehicle Maintenance. 1. Conducts daily checks to ensure the mechanical soundness and overall
*an illness of the assigned vehicle(s) prior to operating, checking petrol, oil, and water levels; electrical system; keys. Tire pressure and condition. 2. Reports vehicle problems to the Sub-unit Supervisor. 3. Maintains accurate records of all trips. 4. Delivers vehicle to garages for periodic maintenance, servicing, and other required repair work. 5. Updates and renews insurance for ECA official vehicles. 6. Arranges and oversees roadworthiness tests for the DES and other official vehicles, as assigned.
C). Supporting Other Activities of the DES and ECA. 1. Provides transportation, when required (in the absence of the Deputy Executive Secretary), for ECA officials and guests as assigned. 2. Provides the following pouch courier; delivery of equipment for maintenance and repair; •Delivery of official documents to embassies, government offices and other locations, as assigned. 3. Drives organized ECA groups going on trips in and around Addis Ababa. 4. As the operative often in the field, acts as the eyes and ears of the Sub-unit Supervisor by providing updated information and feedback on such subjects as: •Developments with respect to garages, workshops, insurance companies and other service providers whose operations the Sub-Unit Supervisor monitors; road, traffic and weather conditions, roadblocks, demonstrations, the movement of Ethiopian Government and other official delegations and other current information, which is required by the supervisor for planning purposes, using handheld radios (walkie talkies) Alert the supervisor to impending changes to transport rules and regulations by virtue of contacts maintained with the transport authorities.
D). Support services for ECA functions. Provides backstopping for ECA conferences by the operation of shuttle and courier services during large conferences.2. Provides transportation for VIPs, ministers of foreign governments and other high-ranking guests of the Secretariat during their stay in Ethiopia. 3. Conducts conference delegates on tours of Addis Ababa and on excursions outside the city. 4. Briefs and provides E) Execute transport and transport related logistics during major ECA conferences, meetings, and other events; success of the event and portray good image of the organization in close contact with VIPs delegates, and other high officials and meeting participants.

F) Liaises with various government offices and process, renewal and conversion of international driver’s license, process of new UN plates for new arrivals and return of UN plates for departing staff, finalizing the paper work with the concerned Government offices.

In the absence of the visa expeditor, drop of passports to the Embassies accredited to Ethiopia for visa process.

F) H) Other duties as assigned.

Formation
High school diploma or equivalent. Driving training with a valid third grade driver's license. For the post advertised, Diploma in Computer Science or Networking is an advantage.

Job - Specific Qualification
Passing the UN's Global General Services Test (GGST) is required. Please refer to the Special Notice section for additional information about the GGST.

Expérience professionnelle
Experience as a driver with a safe driving record is required.

Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles, including vans and other kinds of motorized vehicles is required.

At least four years of progressively responsible experience in the driver’s function is required.

Connaissances linguistiques
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
