Join the Maersk Communications team and take part as the company continues the execution of a high-profile global business transformation towards a global integrated container transport and logistics company, delivering seamless end-to-end solutions to its customers.
You will be responsible for overseeing communications with Sub Sahara Africa media, including planning and executing media events, articles, press kits, press releases, and other content initiatives in alignment with the Corporate Headquarter and the regional leadership team. Cultivates and manages relationships with media representatives based on Maersk´s Communication Strategy. Integrated part of an international media relations team with colleagues working out of Maersk’s Corporate Headquarter (Denmark, Europe) as well as team members in similar international or regional roles for the key markets in Asia-Pacific, North America, West Central Asia and Europe, all referring to the Head of International Media Relations.
You will be working out of our Africa HQ in Cape Town, South Africa, along with colleagues handling internal and customer comms and near the Africa leadership team.

Key responsibilities:
Develop and strengthen relationships with national and regional press contacts to ensure the company´s reputation & image is promoted and protected.
Plan and oversee physical and online press events along with Regional Communications and the brands and business units.
Actively and reactively prevent and address all issues that could impact any of the brands in the region from a Media perspective.
Ensure the company protects and promotes its brand in a proper, coordinated and consistent manner.
Timely handling of press inquiries.
Research and write briefing materials.
Prepare articles and press releases for the media along with the Corporate and Regional Offices.
Monitor exposure of the company on social media. Map out key influencers on social media and build relationship with them.
Co-own end-to-end crisis management (internal/authorities/media). Co-ordinate crisis media management
Represent the company and act as spokesperson when relevant and approved by the Corporate Headquarter.
Manage, coach and develop spokespeople for public engagements together with regional communication managers and the Corporate Headquarters.
We are looking for:
The ideal candidate has Africa specific media relations experience, masters both English and French languages (oral + writing) and holds a Ms. degree in Communication, Journalism, or other related discipline combined with 8+ years of experience developing and managing external communication.

Are a self-starter and quick learner who can challenge and help overcome the status quo.
Are used to work independently – getting direction from the HQ office and ensure regional implementation of communication strategies in close collaboration with the regional leadership.
Are flexible and with the ability to manage multiple topics and projects simultaneously.
Take full ownership and responsibility of communication tasks, small and large – and have the tenacity to see them through.
Hands-on, can-do attitude; a person who is willing to propose and try something new at the same time as being a collaborative team player.
Are a ‘People person’ who can build strong networks with stakeholders internally and externally.
Have experience with issues management and crisis communication.
