This P2 position will be based in the field, situated within the Communication, Advocacy and Civic Engagement (CACE) unit, with joint reporting to the Chief of CACE and the Chief of Resource Mobilization. The role is responsible for supporting the donor recognition and donor visibility efforts of the UNICEF Afghanistan Country Office. The Afghanistan Country Programme is one of UNICEF’s largest, with a Humanitarian Action for Children (HAC) appeal in 2022 of US$ 2 billion, the largest in the organization’s history. Multi-million-dollar grants are negotiated every month, with over 100 reports required to be given to the same donors every year. Donors often have tailored recognition and visibility plans according to their needs, and the CACE unit aims to include donor recognition content with every submitted report, regardless of whether the donor has requested this content or not.

This post will be responsible for contributing to donor recognition and visibility efforts, engagement efforts in collaboration with the Resource Mobilization unit, and will support content creation for donor submissions (i.e., for reports, amendments, or proposals), and will guide content planning and content creation in the CACE unit according to specific donor recognition needs.

This post will be field-based, with frequent field travel and work across UNICEF’s five regions and 13 field offices and outposts.

Description of tasks:
Develop and deliver an overarching donor recognition plan to ensure an effective approach to donor recognition activities across the Country Office. This will involve frequent field travel across Afghanistan to all UNICEF field offices and outposts, working with Chiefs of Field Offices and Section Chiefs.
Plan content collection, creation and publication of donor recognition for each grant when appropriate and in collaboration with programme sections, in line with grant agreements and grant values. Organize and participate in field missions to collect content and assess donor recognition in the field.
Monitor overall donor recognition efforts and performance, proactively propose adjustments as required, ensuring quality of donor recognition activities and reflection of office priorities (e.g., largest and most influential donors first, etc.).
Support RM team with editing of ACO Partner Newsletter and manage MailChimp platform for newsletter delivery and performance (e.g., click rates, feedback, etc.).
Assess and cost donor recognition needs, suggesting necessary budget within the CACE unit to enable adequate donor recognition. Input when appropriate to donor proposals.
Manage internal communication on donor recognition requirements, working with programme sections to ensure they are aware of and act on specific requirements and responsibilities. Monitor and follow up on use of allocation emails outlining recognition requirements for each grant. Input into regular office-wide meetings as necessary, such as management meetings and programme meetings.
Ensure donor recognition systems are in place, such as updated donor social media handles, updated repository of donor logos, etc.
Results/expected outputs:
As an active UNICEF team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly and high-quality support rendered to UNICEF and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions, including:
Donor recognition plans regularly reviewed and updated.
Social media regularly recognizes donors when appropriate and in collaboration with other CACE team members.
Content and mission planner regularly updated to fulfil donor recognition priorities.
Donor submissions reviewed for visibility and recognition content.
Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment
A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed
To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Education: A first degree in a relevant area, e.g., communications, fundraising, public affairs, programme management, resource mobilization, external relations.

Work Experience: At least 2 years of professional work experience at the international level in communication, partnerships, resource mobilization, fundraising, or other relevant programmes; Experience working with multi-lateral or bilateral donors is as asset, as well as grant management skills; drafting, editing and proof-reading skills; production of newsletters and communications products; experience working in the UN or other international development organizations; Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills; Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing; Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development; Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel; Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment; Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines.

Language Requirement: Fluency in English is required or a local language is an asset.
