THE OPPORTUNITY
Plan International Ghana is looking to recruit a seasoned and talented Communications Specialist to coordinate, advise on and implement Communication and Public Relations programs, projects and activities, and to contribute to Plan becoming a recognized voice for rights of children, especially girls (including young women)

DIMENSIONS OF THE ROLE

The role holder will be responsible for Communications and Public Relations (PR) at the Country Level amongs the following:
Develops communication and PR strategies and annual plans, to improve communication both internally and externally and to promote Plan to key country audiences.
Organizes the roll-out of corporate and region-wide initiatives on Communications and PR at country level to promote Plan.
Supports program and advocacy initiatives of Plan with technical coordination and advice to their communication plans to meet the required standards
Facilitates the creation of a strong professional image of Plan amongst external media to reach the right audience

Public Relations:
Develops and manages relationships with national media, journalist networks as well as NGOs and government authorities in communication to ensure Plan communications reach the right audience
Supports the production of Plan's corporate program and sponsorship reports/documents to meet the required standards
Contributes to sharing and learning about Plan's country program work through efficient use of internal and external communication channels and systems to ensure what Plan Ghana does is well communicated.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS
High contact with media partners to ensure Plan communications and PR activities meet the required standards of the organization
Low contact with communications-related service providers for the provision of communication/PR items that would ensure Plan receives value for money.
Has high contact with all country and regional office communications staff
Assists line managers and technical staff to produce timely and quality communications and PR activities
Maintains high contact with other staff from the program unit and country offices to offer support for understanding, informing, influencing or reasoning on administrative related activities.

TECHNICAL EXPERTISE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Essential
At least first degree in Journalism, Mass Communications and Public Relations, WITH a minimum of five (5) years relevant professional experience; OR
Master's degree in journalism, Mass Communications and Public Relations, WITH a minimum of three (3) years relevant professional experience.
In both cases (as specified above) experience in the NGO sector preferably with child rights and community development background, including management and implementation of communication strategies and communications and marketing products, both within the country and across multiple countries, preferably in West Africa.

Strong competencies to plan, prioritize, and execute autonomously with a strategic approach
Ability to deliver to tight deadlines and budgets
Capacity to prioritize subjects based on an adequate reading of local reality
Creativity and innovation
Good knowledge of the communication/PR profession
Project Management
Proficient in Ghanaian languages
Child Rights Safeguarding children
Excellent writing, editing and reviewing skills — fluent in the English, and/or French language
Knowledgeable in working with local and international media and liaising media activities in a national and regional environment.
Knowledge in building individual and organizational capacity in communications and PR skills.
